Many South Florida homeowners assume hardwood is off the table because of humidity and concrete slabs. It isn't. You just have to choose the right product and install it correctly.
Engineered hardwood is usually the right call here. It has a real wood top layer bonded to a stable cross-ply core, so it moves much less with humidity than solid wood. It can be glued directly to a concrete slab, which solid hardwood generally can't.
Before installation, we let the wood acclimate inside the home and test the slab for moisture. If readings are high, we apply a moisture barrier or a moisture-blocking adhesive system that the manufacturer approves.
Pattern floors like herringbone and chevron look spectacular with engineered wood, but they need a flat slab and a careful layout. We dry-fit and square the pattern before any glue goes down so the lines stay true.
Keep your AC running and your indoor humidity steady, and a well-installed engineered hardwood floor will look great in Florida for many years.
